    "...Zlatiborci (people from Zlatibor) are tall, strong and powerful. They are characterized by an unusual flexibility of spirit that has been heard about everywhere. Speaking in general it is hard to find a silly and stupid man among the highlanders from the surroundings of Užice. Almost everybody is full of cleverness and natural wit. He is reasonable and frank in his speech, sober and clever in his opinions, with a practical view upon everything. He expresses his thoughts clearly in a beautiful terse style. He is a born orator and it is a pleasure to listen to his fluent and correct speech in a clear southern dialect that sounds like a song. He has no confidence in unknown,he is ready to make fun and he likes to use proverbs. He is very goodhearted. His patriotism and love for his homeland are planted firmly in his heart and nothing in the whole world can fade these sparks of his love for his rocky homeland...."

    "....Zlatiborka, like any woman from Užice, is characterized by a strong body and a fairly nice appearance....She is also reasonable and has healthy understanding for everything. She is the main pillar of the household and the leading spirit of each job. She puts all the housework in order, such as taking care of sheep and cattle, milking, making cheese and cream, cooking and bringing lunch to the workers, and besides all this she works hard works together with men, she only doesn't plow and mow tha grass. She weaves beautiful linen from flax and hemp, she kneets socks and mittens from wool, she makes various blankets, rugs and all other kinds of cloth. She dyes all these things with home made colours extracted from various plants....Especially in winter time there is always a spindle and a spinning wheel in her hand. She creates wanderful compositions on her creations... which can compete with the similar ones in our country as well as from abroad...."  
  

   The library in Čajetina 

    An organized work on a book in Čajetina dates from the year 19O4 when "the Zlatibor reading room" was established. Thanks to veteran worker and enthusiast mr. Ljubiša Đenić -Pujo, the first Vuk prize winner in the year 1964, the work of the library and the museum collection has been so successful. (He worked in the library from 1947 to 1976). Nowadays the library "Dimitrije Tucovic" possesses 4O OOO books, among which 514 titles are old and rare books, there is also a rich collection of periodicals. In the library there is a great number of museumn exhibits from the far and the recent past of Serbian people and Zlatibor region.The exhibits will be accessible to public completely when the library moves to its new location - to the reconstructed building of the old school.

   After a month spent on Zlatibor, where a woman from Užice had come to get rid of some 
overweight kilograms (with the help of the famous "Čigota" treatment), she phoned to her husband:
-I'm so happy, my dear, I've lost one third of my weight for the month.
Tell me, my darling, how long may I still stay here ?
-My dearest, you just stay for two months more.

  The copper and aluminium works in Sevojno announced a contest to fill some free places in the erection section. Having read about the contest, one of the 
employees entered the office of the manager of the section and asked:
-Comrade Čedo, is there one place in the erection section for my brother-in-law ?
-E, there's really not. This time we are not choosing brothers-in-law, but only 
locksmiths and electricians.

    A  F u n e r a l

   Two people from Uzice stopped to let a funeral procession pass by.
- Who was the person who died ?
- They say, he was a teacher.
- What did he die of ?
- I don't even know what he lived on, and I don't know what the poor creature died of either.

  
   I t 's  n o t  t o o  m u c h

   Prota Miljan Smiljanić arrived to Zlatibor from Belgrade just in time when Zlatibor distric leaders had a big problem. Namely the peasants refused to pay a year tax for dog - keeping, which was 3OO dinars. Prota attended the
meeting at Ljubiš and in a moment he wanted to explain to his countrimen that the tax isn't big. But people of Zlatibor didn't want to agree to this new fine.
When the discussion was the loudest, Ilija Smiljanić raised his voice:
"Hey, listen people! 3OO dinars is not too much for a dog to be allowed to bark the whole year round. I barked only once,as you know and the authorities sentenced me to 3 - month prison term and 5 thousand dinars in cash to pay."

A t  t h e  S u p e r m a r k e t

    A group of German tourists visited the supermarket "Inex" one day during their stay at Partizanske vode (the previous name of Zlatibor).The guests were looking around the
merchandise on the shelves, but it was obvious that they couldn't find what they wanted. Finally one of them came closer to shop assistant Radovan and asked him:
-Sprehenzidojc ? (Sprechen Sie Deutsch)
-I think, we don't have it in the shop, but to be sure you just ask Žika.

      A recipy for preparing the Zlatibor komplet lepinja 

   Note:lepinja is a type of flat bread -enough for one person. For one person you need:
     -1 lepinja
     -1 egg
     -1 soup spoon of old zlatibor milk cream
     -5 soup spoons of "pretop" (fat and sauce of lamb or pork roast -you can find it in each meat bakery)
    Cut off the upper third of lepinja.Grease the lower part with milk cream. Stirr the egg and pour it over milk cream.Press it a little into lepinja put it into a hot owen and bake it about 1O minutes. When you take it out pour warmed pretop over it.
